A SISTER'S PAGE: Prayer to Mary

Mary, my Mother and sister, how often I have wanted to leave you at a safe distance in stained glass glory and on alabaster pedestals.  Instead you teach me that your life was a simple life of love lived with bread dough on your hands and the dust of Nazareth on your feet.  Let your gospel journey find expression in my own life.  Your beautiful Magnificat sang of your faith in the Almighty and your concern and solidarity with the poor and dispossessed of this world.  Help me to do the same.  I need your Annunciation faith to be able to say as you did, “let it be done to me as You will”.  Give me the compassion that you showed when visiting Elizabeth; the compassion to bring Jesus to the world.  I want your Bethlehem trust to let Jesus be born in my life in whatever circumstances I find myself.  Help me to carry out your Cana invitation to “do whatever He tells you”.  And give me your Calvary courage to stand at the foot of the Cross of our broken world believing that the Spirit who brought Jesus to life in your womb will also bring His life to every place and situation that awaits the fulfillment of His promises.  Be with me Mary on my journey.  Be a mother to the Christ-life in me.  Be my companion and guide.  Amen.

Saint Martha's Day

“Saint Martha’s Day” is a designation given to a day of the month when novice/s plan something for the local community.  This could be in the form of preparing a dish to be shared at meals or planning an activity.

On Sunday, November 13, Sr. Philomena shared her acquired skill at cooking with Spaghetti “pizza” casserole (something she cooked for her family).  Her assistant, Sr. Helena, tried the new bread machine acquired as a gift and baked the pumpkin bread.  See for yourselves!

A SISTER'S PAGE: A Consecrated Soul

The Lord has consecrated me
To help the deaf hear and blind to see.

I will repeat what needs to be said
Or need to tell you what I see up ahead.

If my heart could talk it would bless every deed
All that I can do for all those who are in need.

My mouth can talk, joke, or sing with you
If you are lonely and feeling blue.

If you are scared or confused and shed a tear
I can tell you that there is nothing to fear.

If my heart could talk it would tell you how glad
I am to be a comfort to those who are sad.

My hands I can give to those to hold
Who have feelings that need not be told.

To those who can no longer stride
My feet will give you a quick ride.

If my heart could talk it would tell the bliss
Of such a joyful and humble service.

With every good thing that I have got
I can be to those what they have not.

I can ever joyful and happy be
Because no one can take my Lord from me.

The most precious treasure is God's Son
The best ever gift I can give anyone.

If my heart could talk it would surely sing
The praises of Lord Jesus Christ our King.

If my heart could sing it would sing the song
How God showed me just where I belong.
